As your host I was amazed by the overwhelming response to the first-ever Shortyz Awards in 2020 – we received over 250 entries and 12,000+ votes and the awards have quickly become the ‘oscars of the industry’!

The special awards evening brings hospitality leaders together to celebrate success and best practice and the winners’ reactions speak volumes about what it means to have their achievements recognised amongst their peers on a global stage.

We will be extending the reach of our 2021 awards and I look forward to receiving more entries and votes from our readers, and supporting a growing number of sponsors keen to place their brands in the spotlight pre, during and post event.

See you there!

Paul Stevens,

By 2021, the global short-term rental market will be worth approximately US$87.61 billion, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.4 per cent to an estimated $113.9 billion by 2027

Since the launch of Airbnb in 2008, more than five million property owners have become hosts. HomeAway estimates that the overall local host market is growing up to four times faster than the global economy and that 82 per cent of users plan to stay in local host rentals again.

HomeAway, Airbnb and others paved the way for the short-term rental market to go digital, and by 2022, it is estimated that 60 per cent of bookings will be made online, either direct or via an intermediary. The success of short-term rentals has forced the hotel and hospitality industry to adapt whilst an entire eco-system of products offering hosts and guests new services has sprung up.
